Jurors: Rayne Tunley and Steve Rose

Jurors’ Statements
by Rayne Tunley and Steve Rose

We were both delighted to have been asked to jury this year’s 21st annual juried Artworks Oakville exhibition.

Unity, Elements of Design, and Composition are important building blocks in good art. That said, it is the artist’s own expression and belief in their own creative heartbeat is that moves us.

This was an exceptionally difficult task to judge so many wonderfully accomplished works. Choosing artwork to be accepted in and then to award prizes to specific pieces involves a lot of consideration as to conceptual, compositional, textural, and technical ability.

We as jurors wished to include a wide variety of themes, approaches, and media in accordance with the overall execution of the given image.

We would like to congratulate and celebrate all the artists who entered this show.

The International Watercolour Magazine selected Rayne’s work to profile in their 4th issue showcasing seven of her works, which also exhibit at the John A. Libby Art Gallery in Toronto. The article, written by Dallas Jeffs, editor of the Artist-Run Website, describes some of Rayne’s nature motivations in her works.

CSPWC and SFA exchange Exhibits (Canada and France)

Rayne Tunley was instrumental in the organizing and implementation of the Canada/France exchange exhibits between the Canadian Society of Painters in Water Colour (CSPWC) and the Société Française de l'Aquarelle (SFA). The Canadian part of the exhibition was held at the Helson Gallery in Halton Hills, Ontario in June 2018, where sixty paintings from France and forty Canadian works were exhibited.

Approximately sixty Canadian paintings were shipped to France where they were exhibited along with the SFA’s members. The French presentation of the exhibit was held at the unique and historic Cloître in the ancient and picturesque city of Avignon, France. Rayne’s painting exhibited there was entitled, “Shifting Sand”, watercolour, 22in x 30in, part of the artist’s collection

As President of the CSPWC Rayne was interviewed by Yves-Marie of Sennelier in the ochre quarries of Roussillon during this CANADA-FRANCE watercolour exhibition in Avignon from September 1 to 16, 2018.
